Stephanie Barajas

Stephanie Barajas (she/her/ella - hear my name) is a San Jose-based Mexican actor, photographer, and arts administrator. She is currently one of the City of San Jose’s 2022 Creative License Ambassadors, working on her project I Am My Body -- which seeks to explore our relationship with our bodies through creative expression. Raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, her family made the difficult decision to relocate to the Bay Area in 2006. She did not speak English and the culture shock was deafening. In 2010, she attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, with minors in Cinematic Arts and Communications. After college, she found photography and fell in love with the medium. In 2015, she was selected to showcase her work in Art Share LA’s “Gimme Shelter,” a street photography exhibit. She returned to the Bay Area in 2017 and connected with the San Jose arts sector through her work as an events coordinator. She is an alumnus of the Multicultural Arts Leadership Institute (MALI), and the current co-chair of the genARTS Silicon Valley Steering Committee. Stephanie continues to pursue her passion for acting, and she is proud to be a cast member of the web series Chosen Fam which celebrates LGBTQ+ and BIPOC experiences. Stephanie is passionate about art, arts advocacy, fashion, fat justice, and storytelling as a tool for change.
