Led by Anthem Salgado (Art of Hustle)

What is your brand and why is it important? Your brand is essentially a snapshot of your story as an artist: who you are, what you value, what you create, and why. A clearly developed brand helps you earn a niche in an otherwise noisy world, allowing you to cultivate vital relationships with your supporters, patrons, and funders. In this workshop, we will learn about the elements of a successful brand and how it functions as an integral part of your business and career plan.

Anthem Salgado is a Business Coach and Marketing Specialist whose experience spans 20 years across industries and has included clients representing leadership in arts and events, health and wellness, creative and professional services, finance and technology. ART OF HUSTLE® has been running for nine years now and today ranks as the #1 search result for the keyword, “marketing,” for Yelp in San Francisco, having earned 60+ five-star reviews. artofhustle.com

images/2_Portfolio_Site_IG.pngApril 12   >   Designing Your Artist Portfolio Site

Led by Ana María Agüero Jahannes (Art of Ascent)

A portfolio site is more than just proof of your work. With an online portfolio, you can showcase who you are, what you can do, how you do it and what makes you stand out. It’s an opportunity to invite people in to be a fan, funder, promoter, client or even a collaborator – as long as you design it that way. Whether you’re just getting started or already have a site up, learn how to design your own artist portfolio with actions you can implement right away.

You will learn:

  • What’s essential to include and what can wait. A strong portfolio will include certain pages, content and other elements, and while you may have a creative spark to do more, it’s important to build a site with the essential elements, then add features from there.
  • How to prepare your content for the web, both visual and verbal. From formatting your images and writing better descriptions, we’ll cover a few tips for showcasing your work with greater impact.
  • Ways to inspire more interaction on your site with clear and consistent calls to action. These help your audience decide the steps they want to take and will guide the most interested viewers directly to you.

Ana María Agüero Jahannes is the founder and CEO of Art of Ascent, an online school with courses for artists on the come up. A digital marketing generalist with 13 years of strategy and design experience, she’s worked with artists, creative entrepreneurs, startups and cultural institutions to design the brands that create the culture. An artist herself, she knows firsthand how helpful it is to have a digital home to amplify her own projects. Outside of work, you can find her preaching on the beauty of the color brown, scheming on how to make [insert something you could buy], bouldering and throwing down in the kitchen. Led by Ana María Agüero Jahannes (Art of Ascent)

With an online store, artists can sell physical products (virtual goods like ebooks, music or artwork), digital products (virtual services, like online consultations or group classes), or a hybrid of the two. It’s an opportunity to increase visitors to your website and add a source of income to your creative practice. Whether you’re new to selling online or want to add a store to your existing website, learn how to design your own ecommerce site with actions you can implement right away.

You’ll learn the process of creating an online store from start to finish, step by step. Understanding the process will help you avoid the roadblock that often happens when you don’t know what to do next or why you’re doing something at all. Understand what to include, with tips on product descriptions, image formatting, and ways to increase visibility in search engines.

Led by Midori (artist)

What is Patreon? Is it right for you? Midori shares with you tips, strategies, common pitfalls, and how to use Patreon to bring you income and creative joy. She is an independent artist, not an employee of Patreon – because of this, she can share a perspective that you won’t get from their site. You’ll get a live tour of an artist’s Patreon account, understand your goals and how much work to expect, and learn how to make Patreon work for you.

Midori ( 美登里 ) is a multidisciplinary social practice artist. A Tokyo native and long-time San Franciscan known for her durational and interactive performances and engaged installations. Using powerful metaphors drawn from tactile experience and ancient mythology, Midori creates environments for viewers to bring and to process their own narratives.
