The U.S. Federation of Worker Cooperatives is thrilled to launch Guilded, a co-op for freelancers in the creative fields. Guilded is a freelancer-owned digital platform that provides contract workers with three key services:
Financial Support through Guaranteed Payments
Healthcare Benefits
A community for networking and organizing
This free webinar is designed for new and mid-career artists and creatives, based in California, who are looking for ways to build assets while accessing social benefits through their work as freelancers. We will provide tools for which artists can self-advocate to larger institutions for funding through their community groups/collectives and discuss a new cooperative freelancing platform, Guilded, which provides income stability through guaranteed payments and worker benefits for its members.
In 2020 alone, largely as a result of the pandemic, more than 2 million people started freelancing. Freelancers bear the brunt of negotiating and securing worker and health benefits while conducting all aspects of business administration on their own which makes them some of the most exploited and least protected workers in our economy. This exploitation and lack of protection is often magnified for freelancers in the arts. Guilded can serve as an antidote for artists looking for benefits and to join the solidarity economy.
