About Confidently Informed: Navigating the Copyright Claims Board for Creatives

Kicking off our Confidently Creative Series at the Center for Cultural Innovation is the desire to understand the resource that started it all: the Copyright Claims Board (CCB). What is this new resource for protecting artists and creative entrepreneurs' intellectual property (IP)? And how and when do creatives need to turn to it? Join us as we dive into the basics of Copyright and the Copyright Claims Board. Participants will learn about the newly created Navigating the Copyright Claims Board: A Practical Guide for Creators from the certified law students who researched and authored it, and participate in break out activities to practice common copyright scenarios that creatives should be prepared for. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of key terms and basic legal concepts related to Intellectual Property and the CCB and what makes a strong CCB Claim.

Caitlin Burke is a second-year law student at Stanford and a PhD candidate in Communication. She is a member of the Juelsgaard Intellectual Property and Innovation Clinic and she is interested in design ethics, data privacy, and children’s online safety.

Kiran Wattamwar is a second-year law student Stanford and a member of the Juelsgaard Intellectual Property and Innovation Clinic. She’s interested in the defense of civil rights from technology’s harms. Before law school, Kiran studied Computer Science and Architecture at MIT, completed a Master in Design Engineering at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and worked on Palantir’s Privacy and Civil Liberties Team. Most recently, she has worked at technology-focused civil rights non-profits.
