Unfettering Artists' Productivity and Impact

Ted Russell is an organizational consultant, grantmaking strategist, and community engagement facilitator specializing in working with arts and cultural organizations and funders. He served as an arts senior program officer at the James Irvine Foundation from 2005-2016. Previously, Ted was director of marketing at Montalvo Arts Center, audience development manager for the SF Symphony, annual fund director at the La Jolla Playhouse, managing director of Malashock Dance & Company, and director of the Jazz at the Wadsworth series at UCLA. In his Web 1.0 phase, Ted worked at Listen.com, as senior manager of online marketing and for SFGate.com as marketing director.

Ted was recently named a Faces of Theatre Bay Area 40@40 Celebration Honoree as one 40 community members who have changed the face of theater in the San Francisco Bay Area. He serves on the board of Grantmakers in the Arts and the advisory board of Our City. Ted is also a founding board member of 43rd&44th Street Garden, a community garden in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood. He has served as a board member for Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Joe Goode Performance Group, the Independent Television Service (ITVS), Community Initiatives, the Children’s Arts Guild, and is a former Co-Chair of Northern California Grantmakers’ Arts Loan Fund. Ted holds a BA in mechanical engineering from Yale University and an M.B.A. in arts management from UCLA’s Anderson School.
