DESCRIPTION:Offering workshops in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and playwr
 iting, the Conference invites talented writers to come to Sewanee each s
 ummer to learn from each other in a welcoming and supportive environment
 . We’re grateful to Tennessee Williams, whose generous gift of the Wal
 ter E. Dakin Memorial Fund allows us to give every Conference participan
 t assistance that covers two-thirds of the actual costs to attend. Addit
 ional funding is awarded to fellows and scholars.\n\nIn addition to work
 shops led by two exceptional faculty members, our program includes an i
 ndividual meeting for each participant with a faculty member, numerous r
 eadings, open mics, craft lectures, and special topics classes taught by
  faculty and fellows. Visiting editors, agents, and theater professiona
 ls also meet with participants and teach special topics classes.\n\nThe
  Conference is committed to diversity and celebrating the wide range of 
 writers and backgrounds across the writing community. Our commitment to 
 inclusion begins with our application readers, a diverse group that chan
 ges year to year. The first morning of the Conference, we meet for a dis
 cussion on the ethics of workshop in which we examine how we can all hel
 p foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for writers.
