SUMMARY:CCI - Stories in Crisis
DESCRIPTION:-- Stories in Crisis --\n\nA personal storytelling workshop
with Christopher Rivas\n\nThere has never been a more important moment t
o share our truths and our experiences. This moment of crisis has allowe
d us to think about why we became artists in the first place--for the ac
colades, fame, funds, or because we would make our art no matter what, e
ven in crisis, even on a small platform, even in our living room. In thi
s moment, we meet our true voice--not the voice of an industry, or what
someone would have us be. In this online personal storytelling workshop
, we will consider new ways to share our stories during times of social
isolation. Maybe you lost your platform to share your voice. Maybe you l
ost a gig or two (or six like me). Maybe you had all your identity wrapp
ed up in your profession and now you are having an identity crisis. Mayb
e you just need to get something off your chest. Maybe now is the time t
o set that story free.\n\nThis online workshop is for seasoned writers a
nd total novices, alike. It’s for artists and people who appreciate a
good story. No previous writing or performing experience is necessary.
Using a variety of techniques including active listening, guided free wr
ites, sharings, and study, participants will gain tools and develop skil
ls for telling and sharing a powerful, honest, and compelling story. You
will understand the power and necessity of story, of why we tell storie
s and how the stories we tell matter far more than we imagined. And if y
ou are really up to it, you will leave with a story/essay/chapter or two
. \n\nSpace is limited to 12 participants. Register below for Part 1 in
this 3-part series, which will be held live via Zoom on Monday, May 4,
2020, from 11:00am - 12:30pm PDT. If you like what you experience in Pa
rt 1, you will be invited to continue on in Parts 2 and 3 (May 11 and 18
