Community Funding & Ongoing Income for Artists

with Karina Vahitova of The Void Academy

Presented by Center for Cultural Innovation in partnership with 11:11 A Creative Collective at Embed Gallery.

Build your community in a way that creates a reciprocal relationship with the folks who like your work. This workshop addresses both financial and non-financial engagement building and the various online tools available for maintaining a community and receiving financial support for one’s work. We will cover:

  1. What is community funding?
  2. What is ongoing income?
  3. Patreon, online storefronts, and one-time crowdfunding campaigns: how and why they work
  4. The Community Building Cycle: how and why an artist community grows
  5. How to set prices for your art
  6. Artist mailing lists: the key to community building and funding success
  7. What is sustainability?

The Void Academy teaches artists how to build community and make a living. We believe that artists and arts participation benefit from an ecosystem in which there is a direct exchange between artist and socioeconomically diverse audiences. Over the last four years, we have helped artists raise a total of 1.6 million dollars (and counting) towards their crowdfunding projects.
