Have you enrolled inCovered California or Medi-Cal since the Affordable Care Act went into effect? How satisfied are you? Join us for a discussion of health insurance, health care access and affordability. Then attend a presentation from The Actors Fund on how to best use your Covered California or Medi-Cal plans.

Go deeper into the issues of health care access, coverage, affordability, and health care system navigation. This workshop is a valuable opportunity to get your questions answered and make the decisions that are best for you.

Presentation: Now That I Have Health Insurance, HOW DO I USE IT?

The workshop will discuss the following:

  • Health plan benefits for Covered California and Medi-Cal
  • HMO, EPO, PPO plan networks and how to use them effectively
  • Preventative care that should be covered 100%
  • How to find doctors/providers in your network
  • Paying for medical services – how much you will owe for different types of service

Discussion

The discussion will include the following topics:

  • Usage
    1. Overall, how satisfied are you with your current insurance?
    2. When did you get your insurance, and what insurance (if any) did you have before?
    3. How do you use your insurance? How hard is it to navigate the healthcare system?
  • Barriers
    1. Probes: Affordability: What do you think about the costs of your insurance? How easy is it for you to pay the cost of your insurance each month?
    2. Provider network quality and size: What has been your experience finding a doctor that accepts your plan? Are you satisfied with your choice of doctors and hospitals? Did anybody switch doctors? Are you satisfied with the length of time it took to get an appointment?
    3. Deductibles: what is your current deductible? Was there a time in the last year when you needed care and didn’t get it because of the deductible?
    4. Probes: Have you experienced any other issues using your coverage?
