PRODUCING FOR PERFORMANCE: AN INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP
The artist’s role of a producer can be one of the least understood, and yet artists often find themselves needing those skills when developing and executing artistic projects. Any and all artists working on art-based events, festivals, and gallery exhibitions can apply the framework of “producer” presented in this workshop as a useful tool in managing an artistic career.
This session introduces what it means to be a producer with particular emphasis on artists working on performance-based projects, either in collaboration with others or when self-producing.
In this workshop we will identify the various environments in which artists need production skills and capacities. A selection of online tools will be introduced to aid the producer-artist in the following:

About the Trainer:
Miranda Wright is a Los Angeles-based theater producer and founder of Los Angeles Performance Practice, an infrastructure and artists’ network comprised of independent artists and companies who create groundbreaking theatrical experiences through innovative approaches to collaboration, technology, and social engagement. Through LAPP, Miranda produces and curates the Live Arts Exchange (LAX) Festival, a contemporary performance festival elevating the work of cross-genre artists in Los Angeles. Specializing in international collaboration, Miranda has produced and managed work with artists and organizations in Havana, Kampala, Kigali, and Prague. She is the recipient of the 2014 Richard E. Sherwood Award and current faculty member at California Institute of the Arts.
